He has been awarded several prestigious awards such as the Pro Finlandia medal and Prince Eugen’s medal. Birger Kaipiainen (1.7.1915-18.7.1988) is one of the most famous and internationally awarded ceramic designers of Finland. Birger Kaipiainen made a long career at Arabia Art Department creating thousands of unique artworks and also designing several tableware e.g. Apila and Sunnuntai in 1970. Birger Kaipiainen was Finland's foremost ceramic artist of the midcentury period, whose unique style gave him world renown. His unique works are acclaimed collector's pieces and his tableware designs from the 1960s are still in production. Birger Kaipiainen enrolled in art school to study scenography in 1933 but eventually graduated as ceramicist and decorative artist in 1937.
